I'm so excited to share today's DIY! I've been looking for a table tray for a few months and hadn't had any luck, so I decided to take things into my own hands. It's a rather simple process and you are bound to love the end product. Lets see what you will need.
Supplies:
- Wood table tray from Hobby Lobby
- Your color choice of spray paint
- One can of clear wood finish (optional)
- Box knife
- Your choice of patterned or solid paper: 2 pieces
- 1 piece of plexiglass. Lowe's will cut if for you at a rate.
- Ruler
- Pencil
- Cutting mat
- A level, or hard straight edge.
Getting Started
To start off your tray should already be smooth and sanded. Pick a nice little spot outside and paint your tray. Use as many coats as needed.
Once dry, top it off with your clear gloss. You may need a couple of coats. Keep your tray close by for the next few steps.
Next, if you are cutting the plexiglass yourself, place it on a flat surface.
Measure the inside of the tray, both horizontally and vertically.Be sure not to make it too snug, you will want to be able to remove the plexiglass in case you want to change out your paper.
Mark your measurements on the plexiglass. Use your level and box knife to score the plexiglass on both sides.
Once scored, use a solid edge to snap off the
un-needed edges.
Use the same measurements to cut your paper.
Place your paper in the tray.
Now add your plexiglass.
You now have a great, one of a kind table tray!
Your last step is to add your accessories!
If you get tired of the paper you chose, it's easy to swap it out in a few months! Hope you like it! Be inspired and create!
I'm so happy I came across your post-- I have a table tray that I want to re-do and add a fun pattern to. Thank you for posting this!
